Bonaparte is one of those bands that I experienced in my Berlin days. I have seen them play in Bar 25 (most trendy Berlin afterhour club for some years now) and the Fusion festival. From an infamous reputation in the Berlin underground they are now starting to reach wider audiences in Germany and abroad. They have a liveshow that combines circus craziness including lots of weird and funny costumes with their electro-punk style music and I still don’t understand why Roskilde Festival didn’t book them this year seeing they have a great liveshow and some wonderful tunes as well. Check this “Anti Anti” video, which you can’t get out of your head once you hear it and their Myspace-videos that gives a good impression of their musical and liveshow style.
You can catch Bonaparte live at the Berlin Festival (7-8 August), where Saint Etienne one of my favourite bands is playing as well, with some other great acts as well including Peter Doherty, Danish Who Made Who, Jarvis Cocker, Zoot Woman and not least german hip-hop electro-pop band Deichkind, who was one of my Roskilde festival highlights this year.
I listen the to the song “We are the people”, and it definitely makes it easier to get up. The video is shot in Mexico and last month it got a price for the best music video at the St. Kilda Film Festival in Melbourne, Australia. The video is very inspiring: look at the all colours, jewels and feathers!
